Best Self Defence Tips
The best self defense techniques are often the simplest and most direct. The problem with most traditional martial arts moves is that they are too complex. Not only does this mean it takes years of practise to master them but in a real situation they are often forgotten or the martial artist has too many choices to make.
When I teach people self defense tips I aim to give them just a view which they will find easy to use in a real attack or violent encounter. I have studied many martial arts including various forms of aikido. Aikido is an amazing martial art but it's only after ten years of training that the moves come naturally to me. For the everyday person this is too much to ask and too big a committment.
I also advise avoiding conflict and violence and talking your way out an walking away are the solution for 99% of situations. For those other times the self defense techniques I suggest include -
- Strikes with the fist or palm of the hand to eyes, the nose or ears. These will 'shock' an attacker and do not require great power or skill to deliver
- Kicks to the groin or knees. Obvious weak points of the body
- A slap to the cheek or ear. These are surprisingly painful and effective
Surviving attacks and assaults do not require years of training, just some basic knowledge and effective techniques.
